Stockbroker ‘Tudorbethan’ has its period charms, but CB Architects chose to extend this 1930s house in Blackheath using the tropes of 1930s modernism. Out with the fake beams and leaded windows, in with the clean lines and elegant curves of Le Corbusier!

The curving ceiling soffit draws you in to this extension, past the snug with its wood burner and bay window, past the immaculate kitchen with concrete surface on the island and stainless steel on the preparation surfaces and in to the curved space of the dining area, complete with a free-standing column and double-glazed Crittal windows. Oversized floor boards in Lunar Larch give the living area a Nordic feel and outside, a curving steel pergola now hosts a thriving grape vine.

We talked with a number of architects before embarking on our Project but it was only when we met with CB that we felt we got the creative input and innovative thinking that we were looking for. The curved glass design presented by CB Architects really appealed to us as it offered something different to most other extension projects we had come across and we felt it struck the right balance between cutting-edge design and functionality.
CB also added a lot of value at the execution phrase of the project. Whilst we had a hands-on approach, there were certain issues that only came to light due to CB’s attentive monitoring of the build process, which averted any notable disruptions.
Overall we were very happy with the service from CB Architects - and needless to say, with the end result- and would recommend them highly for this type of project.
